I believe that blogs can be an effective way to "unravel the mystery" of communication between teachers, students, parents, and other teachers and administrators. I think that integrating blogs into the classroom can turn the room into a learning community. It helps the students to take ownership of their learning and encourages them to make the connection between a concept and an idea. It also gives them access to a more global learning environment, opening up lines of communication to other students around the world, giving them new insights and ideas.
A blog can also bring parents into the classroom as well. It allows them to have a more active role in their child's education and opens up a line of communication between the parent and the teacher. It also allows the child's extended family to see what the child has been doing and learning in school.
Finally, a blog allows you to connect with your PLC (professional learning communities). It is a tool that allows for collaboration with fellow colleagues and helps to foster growth and development by sharing ideas, resources, and best practices.

In the beginning...
Hello. My name is Amy Robertson and I am a Junior at Emporia State University where I am studying Elementary Education. I am very excited for the next two years and even more excited to begin teaching. I chose to become a teacher after winning my battle with cancer. While I was sick, I realized what was important in life. To me, that was make a positive impact in the lives of children. Primarily, I would like to teach any grade but do tend to enjoy the younger grades (K-3) a little more. I do not have a preference on what I teach, but I do enjoy reading and science.
